Set in the immersive world of Hope County, Montana, the game revolves around a charismatic yet dangerous preacher named Joseph Seed. Believing he’s destined to save Hope County from an impending doom, Seed heads a doomsday cult known as Eden’s Gate. While he claims to lead his followers toward salvation, the truth is far darker: Eden’s Gate uses ruthless tactics, including coercion and violence, to enforce loyalty and silence dissent. When an operation to apprehend Seed leads to a tragic confrontation resulting in the death of law enforcement officers, you, as the player, are thrust into an intense battle between Eden’s Gate and the brave residents fighting back in a resistance. Stepping into the shoes of a sheriff’s deputy, your mission is to bring Seed to justice. Seed, who calls himself “the Father,” rules with the help of his siblings known as “the Heralds”: Jacob, a former military leader commanding armed troops; John, a cunning lawyer who has amassed land for Eden’s Gate; and Faith, a manipulative figure who lures the community into trusting her brother. The local heroes opposing Seed include Pastor Jerome, a determined church leader fighting to reclaim his flock; Mary May, a resilient bartender seeking justice for her father’s cult-related murder; and Nick Rye, a crop duster aspiring to rid the area of the cult’s grip to ensure a brighter future for his children.
