NetEase is celebrating Where Winds Meet achieving the milestone of 251,008 concurrent players on PC via Steam. The title is a free-to-play soulslike with no pay-to-win mechanics. At the time of writing, only cosmetics are purchasable with microtransactions.
The game is marketed to never bring pay-to-win mechanics into the loop, relying on high prices of cosmetics to drive revenue, many of which are locked behind a gacha system. The only purchasable in-game items, at the time of writing, are healing items and minor battle pass benefits.
The beginning of the game is single-player, but cooperative play is unlockable from level 10 onward. Where Winds Meet was released on Nov. 14 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Epic Games and Steam. Before its release, Where Winds Meet saw over 10 million pre-registrations.
Set in the chaotic Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era following the collapse of the Tang Dynasty, the game puts players in the role of a young sword master. It’s an ARPG wuxia game, where “wuxia” translates to “martial arts and chivalry.”
The title has 42,271 “Very Positive” overall Steam reviews.
