  3. The title has a “Mixed” rating on Steam with 3,734 reviews.

AI-generated loading screen image will be removed from Anno 117: Pax Romana following community backlash, even though the title’s Steam page warns players in its AI Generated Content Disclosure that AI tools were used to help create some in-game assets and, in all such cases, the final product reflects the developing team’s craft and creative vision.

Despite the poor quality of the picture, it also features one of the most common AI artifacts – issues with depicting human hands. For example, the man holding a glass on the right in the foreground grips it oddly, with four fingers on the palm, while the person just behind him is missing part of their arm.

“This image was a placeholder asset that unintentionally slipped through our review process. The final image is attached here and will replace the current version of this artwork with the upcoming 1.3 patch. With Anno 117: Pax Romana being our most ambitious Anno yet, we’ve assembled the largest team of artists ever for the franchise, and to help meet the project’s unique scope, they use AI tools for iterations, prototyping, and exploration. Every element players will experience in the final game reflects the team’s craft, artistry, and creative vision,” said Ubisoft to The Gamer outlet.

The final image, which Ubisoft has sent to The Gamer:

Developed by Ubisoft Mainz and published by Ubisoft, the city-building real-time strategy Anno 117: Pax Romana launched on Nov. 12, 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC.

Set in Ancient Rome, the earliest historical setting in the franchise, the title is the eighth installment in the Anno series.

Anno 117: Pax Romana - Official Launch Trailer

In Anno 117: Pax Romana, for the first time in the franchise’s history, players can choose between different starting provinces, ruling either the Roman Empire in Latium or the Celtic kingdom in Albion, spreading the cultural influence of the Romans or the Celts, respectively. In the game, players will take on the role of a Governor who can follow two paths, either as a loyalist or a rebel, expanding the settlement through diplomacy or force, depending on the player’s preference.

As of the time of writing, the title has a “Mixed” rating on Steam with 3,734 reviews.
