The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) claims the union unfairly dismissed previous staff in Rockstar’s union busting efforts.
220 current staff members at Rockstar signed letters demanding the 31 fired employees be immediately reinstated. The news was shared via blog post on the official IWBG game workers website on Nov. 13, where the IWBG claims that the fired employees, who were all members of the IWGB union, were illegally fired for unionizing.
The firing resulted in protest occurring outside the company’s office on 108 Hollywood Road last week, as well as outside Take-Two Interactive’s London offices. More protests are planned for Nov 14 outside London and Paris, and in Edinburg on Nov. 18.
“It’s heartwarming to see so may of our colleagues supporting us and holding management to account,” one anonymous fired commented.
“It’s clear to everyone close to this situation that this is blatant, unapologetic act of vicious union busting,” the source claimed.
Rockstar Games is responsible for the development and eventual release of Grand Theft Auto VI, which recently received a delay to Nov. 19, 2026, from the previous May 26 scheduled release date.
Despite their attempts to meet with Rockstar to resolve the matters through negotiations, the IWGB legal team stated that Rockstar refused to cooperate and persisted to terminate members of the union “in a manner that is unacceptable and unlawful.”
The president of IWGB Alex Marshall stated that they are confident that what has occurred is plain and simple union busting. And in response, the IWGB will mount a full legal defense against Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games.
