Key points

  1. Greg Street, the studio head of Fantastic Pixel Castle, announced that the studio is closing on Nov. 17, 2025.
  2. Fantastic Pixel Castle was founded in 2023 as one of NetEase Games’ first-party studios.
  3. The studio was creating a “modernized fantasy MMORPG” called Ghost.

On Nov. 3, 2025, Greg Street, the studio head and game director at Fantastic Pixel Castle, announced on LinkedIn that the studio will be closing on Nov. 17, 2025, after failing to secure funding for its project. He added that his priority now is to help his developers find employment in other studios.

“While there is still a chance we can secure funding after that date, it will depend on how much of the team remains,” Street said, adding that LinkedIn will be the best way to reach out since their email addresses and website will stop functioning in the future.

Street also thanked NetEase for taking a chance on them. Last month, the studio shared that the partnership it had as a first-party developer within NetEase Games had come to an end. The studio was created in 2023 with backing from NetEase Games.

Since the studio lost NetEase Games’ backing, it started looking for an investor or publisher. The studio also said that they have two backup plans, which are to have a downscoped version of the game it is currently developing called Ghost or simply have its development team create a game for another.

This is the third studio closing under NetEase Games’ first-party studios in just two years. The first was Ouka Studio from Japan, with the second being T-Minus Zero.

Street worked on World of Warcraft and the unannounced MMORPG being developed at Riot Games. The studio was developing a “modernized fantasy MMORPG” called Ghost.
