Halo 2 and 3 remakes are reportedly being worked on, but no estimated release date has been revealed. The news was shared by social media account Halo Leaks, which claims to have talked to an inside source. Earlier this week, the Halo 1 remake was officially confirmed through the announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved, a title that is slated to release on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, marking the end of the console wars.
The Halo 2 and 3 remakes, according to the original source, will be purely campaign remakes. This claim is backed up by the fact that Halo: Campaign Evolved will only remake the campaign, providing no PvP multiplayer features. But if the subsequent titles follow the same gameplay model as Halo: Campaign Evolved, it will support online and couch cooperative play for up to four players online with full cross-platform and progression functionality. Couch cooperative play is limited to two players.
As for Halo: Campaign Evolved, the title is being remade fully in Unreal Engine 5 with 4K visuals and brand-new story content, which includes three prequel campaigns set before the events of Combat Evolved.
The original Halo: Combat Evolved was released over 20 years ago, launching on Xbox in 2001. In the game, an epic conflict occurs between humanity and a technologically superior alien alliance known as the Covenant. The game is the very first game in the main Halo series, and it introduced the world to the iconic character Master Chief.
