- James Uthmeier, attorney general of Florida, has sent criminal subpoenas to Roblox.
- He said that the company has become a breeding ground for predators.
- Earlier this year, Louisiana’s attorney general also filed a lawsuit against the company.
In an X post earlier today, James Uthmeier, Florida’s attorney general, announced that his office has sent Roblox criminal subpoenas. He said in a video accompanying the announcement that the platform has profited off of kids while also exposing them to “the most dangerous of harms.”
He added that the company has enabled kids that use the platforms to be abused and that Roblox has become “breeding grounds for predators to get to and have access to our kids.” Uthmeier clarified that the subpoenas will enable his office to gather more information about the criminal activities that are happening on the platform.
Uthmeier said that his office will stop at nothing to protect young children and that companies enabling predatory activities or exposing kids to harm will be held accountable.
Roblox has provided a statement regarding the subpoenas to Florida Phoenix, saying that the company will be assisting the office in its investigations. “We have a strong record of working with law enforcement and investing in advanced safety systems to help protect our users and remove bad actors. To safeguard users, we prohibit the sharing of images and videos in the chat, use filters designed to block the exchange of personal information, and we are working to implement age estimation for all users accessing chat features.”
This isn’t the first time Roblox has been involved in criminal investigations. In August, Louisiana’s attorney general also filed a lawsuit against the company.
