Key points

  1. NetEase has denied rumors of a PvE mode for Marvel Rivals but remains open to experimenting with new gameplay ideas.
  2. Producer Weicong Wu suggested that while a full PvE experience would be a major shift, a “lighter” mode could be explored.
  3. Across all platforms, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, Marvel Rivals has over 1.5 million monthly active players.

Despite ongoing speculation, NetEase has confirmed that Marvel Rivals does not currently have plans for a dedicated PvE mode. The rumors, which suggested the introduction of boss fights and cooperative content, have been dismissed—though the developers remain open to exploring new gameplay ideas.

Speaking at the D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas, Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu addressed the topic directly. “For now, we don’t have any kind of a PvE plan,” Wu stated. “But our development team is continuously experimenting with new gameplay modes. If we find a mode that is entertaining and fun enough, we would of course bring it to our audience.”

Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo also weighed in, asking if players wanted a PvE mode. While acknowledging the demand, Wu emphasized that a full-fledged PvE experience would require a drastically different approach from the current PvP-driven gameplay. Instead, he hinted at the possibility of a “lighter” mode or experimental event-style content, but nothing concrete has been planned.

For now, Marvel Rivals continues to focus on regular content updates, with new characters arriving every six weeks; the next additions—The Human Torch and The Thing—are set to join the roster on February 21.

As of February 2025, Marvel Rivals maintains a strong player base across multiple platforms. The game reached an all-time peak of 644,269 concurrent players on Steam during the launch of Season 1 in January 2025. Currently, the team-based hero shooter attracts around 250,000 daily users on Steam. Across all platforms, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game has over 1.5 million monthly active players.
