Key points

  1. Black Ops 7’s open matchmaking during launch will feature “minimal skill consideration” for the default matchmaking.
  2. Treyarch is committed to providing a “varied experience” for the players.
  3. More information on potential adjustments to rotation aim assist is planned later.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will feature open matchmaking at launch with “minimal skill consideration” for the default. The announcement was made by Treyarch’s official social media page, where they emphasized the studio’s commitment to providing players a more varied experience. In addition, the developers are considering making adjustments to aim assist, but more news regarding the planned changes is planned for later.

In a Reddit post, players celebrate this change, praising the competition from Battlefield 6, which is scheduled to release on Oct. 10. Within the thread, another user commented that as Battlefield went through its struggles, Activision grew complacent; the extra competition should “light a fire under them and hopefully turn into an arms race with both franchises.”

The first-person shooters have been direct competitors within the gaming industry for some time, with EA holding the rights to Battlefield and Activision owning Call of Duty.

Battlefield 6’s open beta concurrent Steam player count was 521,079, while Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 open beta’s peak figure hit only 99,574. 62% of the title’s wishlist on Steam were reportedly from gamers who also play Call of Duty. Activision is even holding a free week for Black Ops 6, days which coincide with Battlefield 6’s mutli-platform launch.
