  1. Capcom used a legendary Japanese actor as the face model for the protagonist of the newest Onimusha game.
  2. Toshiro Mifune was an actor popular for his samurai roles and was considered one of the best actors during his time.
  3. He worked with Akira Kurosawa and even has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Capcom revealed that they’re using an iconic movie star’s face for Miyamoto Musashi in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The name of the actor is Toshiro Mifune.

Toshiro Mifune was an actor from Japan who died in 1997. He played a lot of samurai roles in the films that he starred in and was considered one of the best actors during his time. His roles in “Yojimbo” and “The Hidden Fortress” won him an award at the Venice Film Festival.

He’s an accomplished actor with over 180 screen credits and has broken through Hollywood, even having the opportunity to star in Steven Spielberg’s “1941”. According to his daughter, he turned down the roles for Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader of Star Wars. He has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

However, it seems that his job is not yet done, as Capcom confirms that they’re using the actor as the protagonist’s face model. It’s unclear what legal process Capcom had to go through to secure the rights to use the late actor’s likeness. But, Capcom said that they’re doing this in order to cement this image of a striking samurai, which is a role that Mifune did a lot during his career.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is slated for release in 2026. The game is the newest addition to Capcom’s Onimusha franchise in two decades. Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is also getting a remaster that’s set to release on May 23, 2025.
