A scam game, BlockBlasters, containing malware hit hundreds of Steam users, including the player and streamer RastalandTV, who was collecting donations for the treatment of stage 4 sarcoma.

A gamer seeking financial support for cancer treatment lost $32,000 after downloading from Steam a verified 2D platformer titled BlockBlasters, which drained his cryptocurrency wallet.

Developed and published by Genesis Interactive. the game was available on Valve’s platform for almost two months, between July 30 and Sept. 21, 2025, and was safe until Aug. 30, 2025, when crypto-draining malware was added.

According to crypto investigator ZachXBT, over $150,000 was stolen from hundreds of victims.

According to reports, the victims were specifically targeted after being identified on Twitter as managing substantial cryptocurrency holdings and were presumably sent invitations to try out the game.

A team of researchers released a short report outlining a dropper batch script that conducts environment checks before harvesting Steam login credentials and the victim’s IP address, which it then sends to a command-and-control (C2) server.

The VXUnderground cybersecurity group, which also investigated the incident, reports a total of 478 victims. Experts have published a list of compromised accounts and strongly advise their owners to change their passwords as soon as possible.

At the time of writing, Valve had removed the title from Steam. Gaming.News requested a comment on the situation but has not yet received a response.

As for RastalandTV, who is battling sarcoma, he had the financial damage compensated by crypto blogger Alex Becker.
