Key points
- Sony released a new version of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in Europe.
- The new version only features 825 GB of internal storage compared to the past version of 1 TB.
- Sony still has not made an announcement regarding the new version of the console.
Video game industry leaker Billbil-kun has claimed that Sony has rolled out the CFI-2116 version of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which only features 825 GB of internal storage instead of the previous 1 TB.
Although the two console versions have differing specifications, they currently have the same price.
While the reduction of around 200 GB might be insignificant for accommodating small indie games such as Stardew Valley or Balatro, players could find themselves limited to only fitting one or two AAA games.
This new revision of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is called the E Chassis, and it’s currently unclear why Sony has downgraded its storage. One theory claims the company is trying to balance out profits without hiking the prices of the console again, which has already happened.
At the time of publication, the console revision is only available in Europe, with no indication of whether it will be available in the US.
Sony has made no announcement regarding the revised console.
