The Steam description of the game says that players can “Mix & Match over 150 memories and essences,” which would determine the kind of build the player is doing with the character. Additionally, the developers made it a point to mention that “no single ‘best build dominates’.”

The developers also pointed out that the game can be played solo, saying that it will be “tight, skill-based gameplay for lone warriors,” while co-op squads of up to four will be more on the “synergistic chaos” side.

Shape of Dreams was released on Sept. 11, 2025, for the PC via Steam. Within its first few days, the game garnered an all-time concurrent player peak of 45,773 players, an impressive feat for a game that was released between two goliaths: Hollow Knight: Silksong and Borderlands 4.
