Key points

  1. Battlefield Labs has begun its early Battle Royale testing utilizing the IP’s unique DNA.
  2. The Battlefield 6 Battle Royale matches will feature 100 players divided into four-player squads.
  3. The closing perimeter ring marks instant death upon contact, so players cannot jump in and out of the ring.

EA announced that Battlefield Labs has begun its early testing for its Battle Royale game mode, which is set to release as a free-to-play standalone experience within Battlefield 6. The Battle Royale features a ring that instantly kills enemies upon contact, meaning there is no jumping in or out of it.

The game mode features 100 players divided into 25 four-player squads, with each player locking in a class at the beginning of the match; the class cannot be changed thereafter.

There are four classes in total. The player begins with two default gadgets from their chosen class; leveling up through XP by defeating an opponent or completing missions unlocks new traits that provide tactical advantages.

Not every class and its traits have been revealed in the official Battlefield Labs blog post, but the Support class revives fallen allies, and the Assault class is faster in equipping armor plates. The missions are crafted to challenge the squad’s teamwork and reward precise execution under pressure, according to the official blog post

All the core principles of Battlefield are marketed to take place within the mode, including gadgets, explosives, destructible environments, and vehicles. The map has been built exclusively for the Battle Royale game mode, featuring numerous tactical Points of Interest with distinct layouts and themes to diversify gameplay.

Common transport vehicles are sprinkled across the map; more powerful armored vehicles can be unlocked as well. Destruction is said to be everywhere in the game mode.

There are 5 tiers of weapons to loot. The loot pool includes throwables, gadgets, Strike Packages, armor, upgrade kits, and custom drops of favorited weapons. The loot is gathered through general loot crates, class-specific crates, unlocking armored trucks, mission rewards, and looting defeated enemies.

The Battlefields Labs community update was provided under Battlefield 6’s Steam posting. Battlefield 6 is scheduled to release on Oct. 10, 2025; the Battle Royale game mode is marketed as a standalone experience separate from the premium Battlefield 6, but is marketed as part of the same game.

Battlefield 2042’s battle pass is currently holding rewards that carry over to Battlefield 6; the exclusive cosmetics have prompted gamers to abuse AFK lobbies to farm the battle pass.
