The hardware feature will reportedly be identical to that of the PlayStation 5’s detachable disc drive, with consumers given the option to buy the console individually as a digital console, thereby having the option to purchase the detachable disc drive separately.
Insider Gaming claims that PlayStation is firm on its decision to utilize a detachable disc drive because the disc drive “hit all the company’s internal targets.” The decision to do so was influenced by the reduced manufacturing and shipping costs during volatile hardware times, with Insider Gaming referencing the ongoing tariff and trade wars affecting the world.
The inclusion of the supposed detachable disc drive indicates Sony’s commitment to keeping physical games for their consoles, an option Nintendo has steered away from by utilizing digital game cards.
