Hollow Knight hit a new all-time peak of 71,083 concurrent players on Sept. 1, 2025, according to SteamDB. The title almost tripled the record it had set within 24 hours after the announcement of the launch date for its sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, on Aug. 21, 2026.
While the announcement of the sequel has brought a surge of interest to the original game, it also turned out to be a reason for multiple indie developers to reschedule the launch of their titles to avoid being overshadowed amid the Silksong buzz.
As of the time of writing, Hollow Knight has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam, with 393,267 reviews.
Developed and published by Team Cherry, just like its predecessor, Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on Sept. 4, 2025, for Windows, Linux and macOS PCs, along with Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
