Call of Duty HQ is about to shrink from approximately 126 GB to about 25 GB on PlayStation 5, according to a report from the X (formerly Twitter) account PlayStation Game Size, which is dedicated to analyzing the size of download files on Sony’s gaming platform.
The news comes on the heels of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III leaving the main Call of Duty launcher and becoming standalone downloads just a month ago.
According to PlayStation Game Size, while update 01.078.000 on PlayStation 5 required 126.224 GB, update 01.080.000 will take only 25.377 GB of space, with 81 GB and 62 GB for PlayStation 4, respectively.
The great shrinking of Call of Duty happens not just ahead of the launch of its new installment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, but also ahead of the release of its main competitor, Battlefield 6, whose open beta version required only 33.9 GB of storage space on PlayStation 5.
It is not yet confirmed, but it is expected that Call of Duty will go with downsizing of download files on PC and Xbox Series X|S as well.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is slated for release on Nov. 14, 2025, while Battlefield 6 is set to launch a month earlier, on Oct. 10, 2025. Both titles are coming to PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X|S, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 also landing on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
