On Aug. 28, 2025, Crystal Dynamics announced on LinkedIn that it will be parting ways with a “number of our talented colleagues as the result of evolving business conditions.” The studio clarified that the future of Tomb Raider was not affected by this layoff.
In March 2025, Crystal Dynamics had its first layoffs this year, where 17 employees were let go. Back then, the studio mentioned that it supported the laid-off employees with transition packages and opportunity outreach. This time, the studio is offering the same support.
Its August 2025 layoff statement mentioned that the decision was not made lightly, but it was necessary to ensure the long-term health of Crystal Dynamics. The studio added, “we are committed to offering the full extent of support and resources at our disposal during this transition.”
Crystal Dynamics is the studio behind the Tomb Raider franchise. Recently, one of the games it is co-developing with The Initiative, Perfect Dark, was canceled due to The Initiative being affected by the Microsoft layoffs and being shut down as a result.
The studio is still working on an unannounced Tomb Raider game as of the writing of this article. Not much is known about it except for the fact that Amazon Games will be the publisher of the game.
