Splitgate Servers Become Peer-to-Peer Based with Additional Content Scheduled

|
Key points
- Starting Aug. 19, Splitgate 1 servers are moving to peer-to-peer, thereby prompting players to host a match and act as the server.
- The developers cannot support a full online infrastructure to run indefinitely, thereby warranting the shift in server structuring.
- After the server shift, achievements cannot be completed and race leaderboards will be removed.
Beginning on Aug. 19, Splitgate servers are becoming peer-to-peer based, with the preexisting online infrastructure being dissolved. The game was originally slated to cease existing, but after the Stop-Killing-Games initiative, the devs committed to a shift in server formatting, thereby prompting players to host a match and act as the server.
The shift in server structuring was due to the developers no longer being able to support a full online infrastructure to run indefinitely, especially in light of Splitgate 2’s existence.
After the servers are shifted to a peer-to-peer basis, numerous functions will no longer remain available: achievements will not be completable after the specified date, race leaderboards will be removed, daily playstreaks won’t be supported, and no anticheat will be enabled.
Despite the limited functionality of Splitgate’s upcoming peer-to-peer servers, the game will still support cross-platform play, with the title remaining available on consoles as well as PC. All the information presented above is according to the official developer’s blog update, detailing the upcoming changes.
Additional content is scheduled for Splitgate. 13 WIP blockout arena maps are being added, alongside simulation Juliet, which is an unreleased Takedown map; all players will gain access to all cosmetics.
The game’s sequel, Splitgate 2 Beta, sits at “Mixed” on Steam reviews with a total of 19,010 users having provided user input as of writing. After negative community feedback, the title was unlaunched and went back into early access testing stages. As for its predecessor, Splitgate 1 has “Very Positive” Steam reviews with over 100,000 users having provided input.
