Hollow Knight: Silksong will reportedly not feature any early review copies prior to its official release on Sept. 4, 2025. Team Cherry reportedly told reputable video game journalist Jason Schreier that providing early review copies would not be fair for Kickstarter backers and other players.
Jason Schreier shared the news via social media, where he wrote, “Don’t expect to see reviews until after the game comes out.” The news was posted on Aug. 21, 2025, on Bluesky; the journalist added his speculation to Team Cherry’s decision as well.
He does not believe this is the only reason for not providing early review copies, attributing the amount of time to get the codes and distribute them to a tiny team, also contributing. Team Cherry is an indie game studio with three main members: Ari Gibson, William Pellen, and Jack Vine.
Hollow Knight: Silksong did not have any Kickstarter campaigns, but its predecessor did. The original Hollow Knight raised roughly $36,720 with 2,158 backers in late 2014. The title saw resounding financial success, having sold over 15 million units across platforms, according to a report from IGN.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; the price point for the game is currently unavailable.
