Key points

  1. The Battlefield 6 community update was published on Aug. 21, 2025.
  2. Weapons, movement, and game modes are all being adjusted to varying degrees.
  3. Many of the upcoming changes are inspired by insights gathered during the Open Bea play sessions.

Battlefield 6 published a community update outlining several changes before the game’s launch on Oct. 6. The developers are making targeted adjustments to weapons to provide a “more consistent and rewarding gunplay experience.” The changes include a broad, overall adjustment to the recoil and tap-fire mechanics for all weapons in the game.

As for specific changes, the M87A1 shotgun was directly nerfed, now requiring more pellets to kill. Updates for Time-to-Kill and Time-to-Death experiences are being investigated, with definitive changes scheduled to be communicated at a later date.

Movement saw changes as well; momentum carried after a slide into a jump was nerfed, and greater penalties for consecutive jumps were added. The jump height was lowered when jumps are spammed. Parachutes’ initial acceleration was reduced when opening them to provide more controlled aerial movement.

Maps saw adjustments as a direct result of players breaking the game. For context, players were venturing out of bounds by abusing the Assault class; this was not intended, and the developers are actively working to prevent unintended access to “ensure gameplay stays within the intended boundaries.”

The Rush game mode default player count is being lowered to prevent problems like overwhelming defenses and stalled frontlines. Though a high player count created intense moments, the issues that resulted were deemed more significant. The Portal feature will allow players to play Rush with a larger player count.

Breakthrough game mode allows for up to 64 players; the development team is specifically readjusting each map to achieve a balance for both attacking and defending teams in the game mode.

The number of players in different game is not necessarily fixed.

“Rather than locking maps and modes to a fixed player count, our philosophy is to adapt to best fit the intended experience. This may vary by map or evolve over time with player feedback.

For example, at launch, some Breakthrough layouts will support 48 players, while others will have 64. It’s the one of many factors we adjust to create the right balance and feel for each scenario,” the developers shared.

On Aug. 12, 2025, Alinea Analytics published a report revealing that Battlefield 6 currently has 2.7 million wishlists on Steam. Aside from the 2.7 million wishlists on Steam, the game is also celebrating $35 million in Steam revenue alone, as 605,000 pre-orders have been counted.

On Aug. 9, 2025, Battlefield 6’s open beta was confirmed by EA as the biggest in the franchise despite Secure Boot issues and long queues. The 18th installment in the Battlefield series is slated for a full release on Oct. 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X|S.
