On Aug. 21, 2025, IGN released a video report regarding Elden Ring’s performance on the Nintendo Switch 2’s handheld mode, and the outlet deemed it a “disaster.” IGN even pointed out that this is probably the reason they can’t record any footage at the booth.
IGN said that while the game seemed fine in the tutorial area, upon opening the double doors leading to Limgrave, the problems started to come up. In their testing, turning the camera around was enough to introduce frame drops.
The outlet also pointed out that for players who are used to playing the game on PlayStation, the Switch 2 button layout gave them trouble, resulting in awkward deaths in Limgrave. Before signing off, the reporter clarified that he could not comment on the game’s performance in docked mode, as they weren’t able to try it.
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition was first announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 in April 2025. The game will contain the base game and the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree. In addition to that, this version will also feature new armor, weapons and customization for Torrent’s appearance. All of the additional items will also be available on other platforms in the future.
