On Aug. 18, 2025, the latest installment to the Rune Factory franchise, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide. The game is the eighth Rune Factory game released.

The game puts the players in the shoes of an Earth Dancer, tasked to fight the corruption called Blight. The players will also spend some time crafting and developing relationships with other NPCs, which can result in marriage, just like any other farming simulator.

Despite the slight switch in focus, the game still received positive reviews from critics, according to Metacritic. Additionally, the game is also celebrating a “Very Positive” review score on Steam and has even reached an all-time concurrent peak player count of 13,121 players.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma was released on June 5, 2025, and is available on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. On the same day, Marvelous released a DLC that contains bonding stories for two NPCs that are already in the game, which caused a bit of a ruckus in the community, resulting in the DLC’s review being very negative on Steam.
