- Pokémon has announced that its tournaments will start using Pokémon Champions next year.
- Additionally, Mega Evolutions will return in Ranked Battles once the game is out.
- Pokémon Champions still has no exact release date.
On Aug. 17, 2025, Pokémon announced that its tournaments will be shifting away from mainline titles and will officially use Pokémon Champions as its “official platform for Pokémon Video Game Championships battles.”
In addition to this, Pokémon also announced that Mega Evolution “will return in Ranked Battles, and that Mega Dragonite is soaring into the game.” Trainers in Pokémon Champions will utilize a device called the Omni Ring, which is a substitute for a Key Stone needed to turn Pokémons into their Mega Evolution.
Despite this announcement, Centro Leaks, a prominent Pokémon leaker, mentioned that some regions of the world will still use Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet for Championship Series events. However, a list was not provided regarding what regions will use them.
Additionally, even though Pokémon announced that Pokémon Champions will be used as its main game, it has no exact release date yet. The game is slated to be released next year for mobile and the Nintendo Switch.
Pokémon Champions, aside from allowing players to access Pokémons in their Pokémon Home, will also feature recruitment, making it easier for players to assemble the team they want to play competitively with.
