On Aug. 6, 2025, RedOctane Games announced that it is coming back to create rhythm games once more. RedOctane was the original publisher of the Guitar Hero games back in 2005-2006 before it was closed down in February 2010.
In a press release that the studio published, it revealed that former Guitar Hero and DJ Hero developers have joined the new studio. Additionally, Simon Ebejer, the production director on several Guitar Hero titles, will act as the studio head. Guitar Hero creators Charles and Kai Huang are also joining the studio’s special advisory board, giving them insight into the studio’s direction.
RedOctane Games will continue doing what it was known for, which is rhythm games. Ebejer provided a quote in the press release, saying that rhythm games are more about “feel, flow, and connection to music and to each other” instead of just pure gameplay.
The studio also added that it is currently developing a rhythm game, which will be revealed later this year. In another blog post, the studio clarified that “this game won’t be Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, Guitar Freaks or Rockband. This is something new.”
