A trailer for Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, the remake of the 2004 game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the fifth main entry in the franchise, has revealed the game’s official release date – August 28, 2025.

The trailer, which briefly appeared on the game’s page at the PlayStation Store, also showcased some new title’s features, including enhancements for the PS5 Pro and a return of the iconic Snake vs Monkeymini-game first introduced in Metal Gear Solid 3, which features Snake facing off against monkeys.

The new version of the game will feature a more dynamic third-person visual perspective, making the gameplay feel closer to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain making a significant difference from the original’s fixed, zoomed-out camera.

“This is a 20-year-old game, so when we decided to bring it to modern platforms, we didn’t want to make it feel like an old game,’’ said Konami’s Metal Gear series producer Noriaki Okamura last year. “We refined many elements to ensure that even players who never touched the original will experience a game that feels as fresh as anything released today.”

As of September 2024, the Metal Gear series has sold over 62.1 million units worldwide. Besides the financial success, the franchise has a rich history, including a groundbreaking fourth-wall-breaking mechanic at the time. Metal Gear Solid 2 featured a boss fight against Psycho Mantis, where the character would ‘read’ the player’s mind and ignore all the attacks. In order to cause damage to a villain, players should change a controller port and continue the fight.
