  1. War Thunder introduces an auction system on February 3.
  2. Players are not happy about the introduction of the system and call it predatory.
  3. The developers clarify that it’s only experimental as of writing.

War Thunder has announced that an auction system will be introduced to the game and the players are not having any of it.

An update posted on the War Thunder website on February 3 explains that the auction is a “new way to distribute player-created content”. The auction will use the game’s premium currency, the Gaijin Coin. Each Gaijin Coin amounts to $1.

The problem with the auction system is the bidding that happens. The post explicitly states that they will be adding new pieces of work that players might be interested in and have it up in the auction for a limited time. This creates fear of missing out which is something that the player base hates.

The comments section of the blog post is filled with negative reception from the players calling the auction system “absolutely outrageous” and “abhorrent”. According to the players, the auction urges people to pay the developers a lot of money and it might lead to the developers becoming bolder by adding premium content to the auction. The criticized auction system is currently up and running with three items available for players to throw their bids on.

War Thunder is a vehicular combat action game developed by Gaijin Entertainment. Players control different historical or current vehicles and fight with each other on land, air, or sea. The game has also become popular due to players having some kind of tendency to leak classified documents about vehicles.
