The creators of Dune: Awakening, Funcom, issued an apology and promised to reimburse suddenly vanished vehicles and items to players impacted by the accidental wipe of goods.
According to a statement from the game’s developer posted on the title’s Steam page and official website on July 9, 2025, reimbursed materials, items, and vehicle components will appear in the ‘Claim Rewards’ tab by the end of the week (July 13, 2025).
As Funcom explained, the launch of Patch 1.1.15.0 caused several areas of the PvE Deep Desert to become PvP-enabled, while this change was intended to occur only with the next Coriolis cycle and not impact the ongoing cycle. Funcom cited an oversight in their development process and internal communications as the reason for the accident.
Dune: Awakening’s developer also highlighted that they already have proper tools to reimburse all affected players, but it may take some time as the backlog of related support requests is massive.
The company also highlighted that during the next weeks and months, their primary focus will be on fighting hackers and fixing exploits such as third-party cheat engines, client hacks, and in-game exploitation of game mechanics.
Dune: Awakening was launched for Windows PC on June 10, 2025. The game is also planned for console release in 2026 on both Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
The story of the game is set in an alternate timeline, different from the Dune universe created by Frank Herbert, as in the game’s world, the franchise’s key character, Paul Atreides, was never born.
Due to such circumstances, the desert planet Arrakis is struggling with a civil war between House Atreides and House Harkonnen, while the Fremen nation has mysteriously vanished.
In Dune: Awakening, players assume control of an undercover agent working for the Bene Gesserit who must find the Fremen and “wake the Sleeper.”
As of the time of writing, the game has an all-time peak of 189,333 concurrent players and a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam with 44,777 reviews. Within two weeks after launch, the game reached the milestone of 1 million copies sold.
