The Last of Us Part II received a remastered chronological experience in a free update that landed on PlayStation 5 and PC on July 8, 2025.

While chronological mode allows players to replay the game following the natural order of events, the update also adds skins of the Drake brothers from another Naughty Dog franchise, Uncharted. Now Joel can suit up as Nathan, and Tommy as Sam.

Developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the sequel to the original 2013’s The Last of Us was initially released for PlayStation 4 on June 19, 2020, then got a version for PlayStation 5 on January 19, 2024, and was ported to Windows PC on April 3, 2025.

Set in a post-apocalyptic United States four years after the first part, the game focuses on two playable characters: Ellie, who aims to seek revenge for Joel’s murder, and later, Abby, who gets herself involved in a conflict between the militia she used to be part of and a religious cult.

The Last of Us Part II won 48 industry awards and one honorable mention across multiple industry-acclaimed ceremonies.

As of the time of writing, the game has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with 17,173 reviews and a peak of 30,690 concurrent players, according to SteamDB.

Written by Neil Druckmann in collaboration with Halley Gross, the game sold over ten million copies globally by 2022.
