Key points
  1. Bayonetta Origins director Abebe Tinari and Astral Chain director Takahisa Taura reportedly left PlatinumGames.
  2. Project GG was removed from the official PlatinumGames website.
  3. Ninja Gaiden 4 will likely still release despite studio changes.

Bayonetta Origins director Abede Tinari and Astral Chain director Takahisa Taura left PlatinumGames – with Abede Tinari joining Housemarque and Takahisa Taura reportedly having removed PlatinumGames from his LinkedIn profile.

Though not officially confirmed, there are rumors of many more developers leaving the studio. As of February 4, whether these workers were laid off or left on their own volition is not yet publicly known.

In addition to the change in their workforce, fourteen titles, including Project GG, were removed from the official PlatinumGames website. The studio has made no announcement regarding the development state of Project GG – which was marketed as the studio’s attempt to self-publish video game titles.

Many gamers assume Project GG was cancelled, as the director in charge of the project, Hideki Kamiya, left the studio in 2023. Kamiya has not confirmed the cancellation of the project, but the disappearance of Project GG indicates a very high possibility of its potential cancellation. PlatinumGames has remained radio silent regarding the state of Project GG.

It appears Ninja Gaiden 4 is still slated to properly release, indicated by its presence on the official website. The game is planned to debut in Fall of  2025, with no confirmed release date.

PlatinumGames is most well known for its action JRPG games. The studio’s most known titles include Nier: Automata and Astral Chains, with the former having achieved nine million sales.
