Major layoffs are set to happen at Xbox next week, according to a Bloomberg report. The layoffs will be a part of a company-wide reorganization and will be the fourth big layoff at Xbox in the past 18 months.
The report also notes that Microsoft executives have been pressuring Xbox to increase its profit margins since purchasing Activision Blizzard in 2023. Additionally, Bloomberg also mentioned that Microsoft usually makes major organizational decisions around the end of its fiscal year, which is on June 30.
Information about the layoffs came from managers at Xbox who were familiar with the plans. Bloomberg wrote that they did not want to be identified. Xbox layoffs happened earlier this year, on Jan. 5, when Microsoft’s gaming division was hit. Just a few days ago, Bloomberg also reported that Microsoft is planning to lay off employees from the sales department.
Recently, Xbox announced its collaboration with Meta regarding the Meta Quest 3S. The partnership marks the very first limited edition in the history of Meta Quest virtual reality headsets and will be on sale starting June 24, 2025. Players who buy the headset will receive three months of Meta Horizon+ and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, allowing them to play games in the Game Pass catalog using the headset.
