Splitgate 2 developer 1047 Games has laid off several employees as it shifts resources to double down on development, according to the studio’s statement posted via a LinkedIn post.
The company didn’t specify how many employees were affected, referring to them as “a small group of valued 1047 Games team members.”
Co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian stated that they will not receive salaries during this period, as the team enters what they describe as the “next phase of the project.”
The news comes several days after Splitgate 2 game director Ian Proulx issued a public apology, as his appearance at Summer Game Fest drew backlash because he wore a “Make FPS Great Again” hat styled similarly to MAGA branding.
The MAGA/FPS incident happened only three days after the studio came under fire for a $145 cosmetic item in Splitgate 2, prompting an apology from Proulx, with the price later being reduced to $40 and refunds issued.
Launched on June 6, 2025, for PlayStation 4|5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, Splitgate 2 has a Mixed rating on Steam with 16,292 reviews and a gradually decreasing number of concurrent players since the peak of 25,785 on June 7, 2025.
The first initial free-to-play multiplayer shooter in the Splitgate series has achieved over 22 million downloads across PC and console platforms since its release in Early Access on PC in 2019. The game’s popularity surged notably in mid-2021 following its beta release on consoles, during which it amassed over 600,000 downloads in its first week.
