Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced that Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has surpassed 5 million units sold worldwide, making it the fastest-selling game in the franchise’s history.
Released on Oct. 11, a 3D fighter developed by Spike Chunsoft marks the first new entry in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series in over 15 years. The game offers 182 characters, featuring heroes and villains from across the Dragon Ball franchise.
“We knew the return of the Budokai Tenkaichi series would excite long-time fans, but the response has been beyond our expectations,” a Bandai Namco spokesperson stated. “The passion of the Dragon Ball community has truly propelled Sparking Zero to new heights.”
The Dragon Ball video games are inspired by Akira Toriyama’s manga franchise. Starting in 1990, following the release of the second anime television series, the games adopted the Dragon Ball Z branding. There are over 150 Dragon Ball video games available across various platforms in various genres, including fighting, role-playing, and platform games.
