Key points
  1. Hasbro has fired 3% of its employees, which translates into around 150 people.
  2. A spokesperson said that this round of layoffs is part of their restructuring efforts.
  3. Hasbro has laid off more than 1,000 employees in 2023.

On June 17, The Wall Street Journal reported that Hasbro has fired 3% of its workforce, which amounts to 150 of its employees. A spokesperson from Hasbro revealed that these cuts had to happen because they are aligning their structure with the company’s long-term goals.

In early April, according to The Wall Street Journal, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks had already warned the company that US President Donald Trump’s tariffs would lead to Hasbro employees being laid off. In addition to that, the prices of their products will be higher due to the company producing about half of its products in China.

Despite the company showing growth in financial statements, Hasbro mentioned that it is planning to cut at least $1 billion in costs in the next few years. This layoff is most probably a part of that plan. In December 2023, Hasbro laid off around 1,100 employees, for a total of around 1,900 people laid off for that year.

It’s worth noting that on Feb. 25, 2025, Monopoly GO earned Hasbro around $112 million, which was 23% of its digital gaming revenue in 2024.

Hasbro is an American company specializing in toys and other entertainment products. It currently owns Monopoly, Magic: The Gathering, My Little Pony and Power Rangers, among many others.
