Key points
  1. Gears of War trilogy remaster rumored to launch as a multiplatform release, including PS5.
  2. Microsoft continues its shift away from exclusivity, following titles like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush.
  3. Gears of War: E-Day prequel is in development and expected to release in late 2025.

A new report indicates that a remastered collection of the first three Gears of War games is in development and may be headed to PlayStation 5. The claim comes from insider eXstas1s, who earlier this year correctly predicted Ninja Gaiden’s inclusion in Xbox’s Developer Direct.

In a newly released video, eXstas1s states that the project, allegedly titled Gears Collection, will be announced as a multiplatform release from day one.

While the insider claims the remastered trilogy will launch on PlayStation 5, they were unable to confirm whether it will also be available on the Nintendo Switch. Given Xbox’s growing partnership with Nintendo, the possibility of a release on Switch 2 remains open, though hardware limitations could be a factor.

In recent months, Microsoft has shifted away from exclusivity, bringing several previously Xbox-only titles to PlayStation 5, including Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and, in the nearest future, Forza Horizon 5. If Gears Collection follows suit, it would mark another major franchise making the jump to Sony’s platform.

The Gears of War franchise, developed by Epic Games and later acquired by Microsoft, debuted in 2006 as a flagship title for the Xbox 360. Known for its cover-based shooting mechanics, intense storytelling, and brutal combat, the series quickly became one of Xbox’s most recognizable exclusives. The franchise has since expanded with multiple sequels, spin-offs, and remasters, with Gears 5 being the latest mainline entry. A prequel, Gears of War: E-Day, is also in development, and expected to launch in late 2025.
