Sony Reveals Retro Mortal Kombat Alongside New Official Fight Stick

During Sony’s State of Play presentation, video game development company Digital Eclipse revealed their project: Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection. The collection includes over 20 different iterations of retro fighting games, including Mortal Kombat 1 through 4. Sony also announced support for fighting games on their PlayStation 4 and 5 with the eventual release of a new official PlayStation fight stick.
Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection ports both console and handheld versions of the game. The title is marketed to have online multiplayer support with rollback netcode.
“We’ll take you back to the glorious 1990s, the days of arcades and tokens, of hidden Fatalities and secret characters, with the original versions of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3,” the official PlayStation store posting reads.
As for the fight stick, currently codenamed Project Defiant, it is marketed to include three key features:
- Custom-designed controls for fighting games
- Ultra-low latency wireless connectivity
- Sling carry case
The device is slated to release in 2026 with no specified date – the final product name will be announced in the future as well. More details regarding the upcoming device are listed on the PlayStation official blog.
