Nintendo revealed six new items coming for Mario Kart World – the title release for the Nintendo Switch 2. The new item additions diversify gameplay; one of them creates a trail of coins – a currency that increases acceleration.
The items were revealed by Nintendo’s official social media account, alongside a short description of the item. Here are all six items teased thus far:
Coin Shell
“When you throw a Coin Shell, coins will appear as it crashes into opponents on the course! Now’s your chance to grab ’em…just don’t let your rivals cash in first!”
Ice Flower
“With the Ice Flower, you can freeze out rivals and send ’em spinning!”
Hammer
“Aim the Hammer in an arc and…nailed it! Hammers also stay on the course for a short time, and can be used to block off rivals.
Mega Mushroom
“With the Mega Mushroom, go big so your rivals will go home! “
Feather
“Use the Feather to jump up and avoid attacks. You may even discover some unexpected routes! In Battle mode, flying over a rival lets the user steal balloons or coins.”
Kamek’s Magic
“With Kamek’s magic, your rivals will transform, and other unexpected events will occur! What, you ask? You’ll have to see for yourself…”
Many of the new items being added are new to console Mario Kart, but not to the entire franchise. Mario Kart Tour, the mobile iteration of Mario Kart, served as a testing grounds for the items. The game initially released in 2019, and ceased new content updates in 2023.
Mario Kart World releases on June 5, the same date the Nintendo Switch 2 launches. The title was initially developed for the original Nintendo Switch, but was postponed for the Switch 2 due to the predecessors’ limitations.
