Star Wars Battlefront II Dev Responds to Battlefront III Demands

|
- Star Wars Battlefront II’s community is begging for Battlefront III.
- The community movement gained enough traction to garner attention from the ex-Battlefront II developers.
- Developer Matshelge wants to get the “gang back together,” but they don’t think Battlefront III will be announced regardless.
With the increased popularity of Star Wars Battlefront II, the community is once again banding together to ask for Battlefront III. Content creators are discussing the topic alongside online communities, prompting a response from ex-developers responsible for the franchise.
After seeing a thread on the r/Starwarsbattlefront, an ex-developer for Battlefront II stated that he wanted to “get the gang back together.” The developer, with online alias Matshelge, then responded to a question regarding how realistically likely Star Wars Battlefront III would be.
“I don’t expect Battlefront 3 to be announced at the end of this rally. But overall, yeah, I think there are people who are talking about it,” the developer shared.
The same dev shared a roadmap for the community to follow, serving as a guiding template for those less informed of the development process:
“Hear me out – no Battlefront 3 right now, but Battlefront 2 remaster for whatever future console is arriving in 2027-28. Dev time is around 2-3 years. There is a laundry list of improvements that this game could get in my opinion, and getting it updated was always on our wishlist.
Once that is a success, then we start work on 3. You have a team familiar with engine, assets, and really could kick off developing a 3 within a much shorter time span, and working on feedback from a fresh Battelfront 2 audience base. This would be a 5-6 year plan, but it’s far more likely to be a success.”
Star Wars Battlefront II returned triumphantly in May, achieving a peak concurrent player count of 9,777. The title had not seen such a player count since January of 2021, more than four years prior. The highest number of players recorded was 10,489 – the number was achieved more than four years ago.
Rebellions are built on hope in the Star Wars canonical universe, and hope is all the Battlefront II community has left. Star Wars Battlefront II was released on Nov. 17, 2017. The title was notorious for its pay-to-win mechanics on launch, but has since been significantly improved upon.
