Following Balenciaga and Diablo 4, Google celebrates the Lunar New Year by unveiling an interactive Doodle featuring a modern twist on the classic Snake game. The game is available on Google’s homepage.
The title, launched on January 29 and running until February 12, celebrates the Year of the Snake, which symbolizes intelligence, adaptability, and foresight in Chinese zodiac tradition. Players can control the snake’s movements using their keyboard or mouse, collecting items to increase its length while avoiding walls and its own tail.
It is not the first time Google has brought gaming experience to users. Over the years, the tech giant has released a series of interactive Doodle games among which were:
- PAC-MAN (2010): To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic arcade game, Google transformed its logo into a fully playable PAC-MAN game. It became so popular that Google later added a permanent version for users to enjoy.
- Cricket (2017): Honoring the ICC Champions Trophy, Google released a cricket-themed Doodle where players could bat and score runs, complete with charming animations and sound effects.
- Halloween (2016): Google’s “Magic Cat Academy” Doodle featured a cat named Momo casting spells to defeat ghosts. The game’s adorable design and engaging gameplay made it an instant hit.
- Rubik’s Cube (2014): Marking the 40th anniversary of the Rubik’s Cube, Google created a virtual version of the puzzle that users could solve directly on the homepage.
- Garden Gnomes (2018): This Doodle celebrated Garden Day with a whimsical game where players launched gnomes through the air, aiming for the highest score.
As of now, Google has created over 5,000 Doodles since the tradition began in 1998. The tech giant even created a separate page to preserve the most popular titles.
