|
- Valve has officially announced a new compatibility rating system for SteamOS devices.
- Valve will handle the compatibility verification process itself with no additional steps required from developers.
- According to Valve’s estimates, more than 18,000 games will carry the compatibility tag for third-party devices running SteamOS at launch.
Valve has officially announced a new compatibility rating system for SteamOS devices in the blog dedicated to the Steamworks Development Events.
As of the time of writing, Valve’s Steam Deck is the only official portable PC running on SteamOS. But at the end of May 2025, Lenovo plans to release the Legion Go S version, which will also operate on Valve’s Arch Linux–based Linux distribution. Ahead of its release, Valve announced that in the coming weeks, Steam will begin indicating on game pages whether they are compatible with third-party devices on SteamOS or not.
After a special review procedure, games in the Steam catalog will fall into one of two categories:
- Supported — the game and all its related software work on SteamOS,
- Not Supported — the game and all its related software do not work on SteamOS.
Valve emphasized that, just like with the Steam Deck, it will handle the compatibility verification process itself. Developers are not required to take any additional steps.
On top of that, each title that has already passed Steam Deck verification will automatically be labeled as Supported for SteamOS. Other titles will be reviewed based on priority, which is determined by player interest.
According to Valve’s estimates, more than 18,000 games will carry the compatibility tag for third-party devices running SteamOS at launch.
