Key points

  1. Reece Reilly interviewed a former animator for Rockstar Games for his thoughts about GTA VI.
  2. He says 60fps might not be possible for consoles on initial release.
  3. The interview has since been deleted at the interviewee’s request.

In an interview posted by Kiwi Talks, a former animator who worked for Rockstar Games mentioned that he’s expecting Grand Theft Auto VI to run at 30fps on consoles.

The now-deleted video has Reece Reilly, the host of Kiwi Talkz, interview Mike York. Mike York is a former employee of Rockstar Games and has worked as an animator for Grand Theft Auto V. He believes that the studio is shooting for a locked 30fps instead of 60fps. This means that no matter what’s happening on the screen, the frames wouldn’t drop below 30fps.

According to York, unless GTA VI uses an AI upscaler, it’s going to be hard for the game to reach 60fps during the initial launch. However, he is also quick to say that he doesn’t know what Rockstar Games is currently doing with the game and that he’s only talking from experience with working on GTA V. A day after posting the interview, Reilly deleted the video due to York’s request. A reason for the deletion wasn’t provided.

GTA VI remains to be the most anticipated game of 2025, even winning the award during The Game Awards 2024. The game is currently being developed by Rockstar Games for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series S/X. GTA VI has suffered from several devastating leaks such as early footage being released to the public as well as a potential leak of its release date by an online vendor.
