The latest GTA VI trailer, which has already surpassed 80 million views and is currently the top trending video on YouTube, was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5. Rockstar used direct gameplay and cinematic cutscenes, according to its official social media pages. The trailer was revealed on May 6 and indicates GTA VI’s release date, which is May 26, 2026.
“Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes,” the social media post reads.
According to Eurogamer, some gamers speculated that Rockstar Games used a PlayStation 5 Pro, an upgraded version of the flagship console. But the media outlet confirmed that “everything we saw in its most recent trailer was indeed generated by Sony’s now nearly five-year-old console.”
The new trailer introduced the male protagonist, Jason Duval, who partners with Lucia Caminos, the female character who debuted in the initial trailer. Vice City is the primary setting of GTA VI. Another GTA VI character who has been officially revealed is Cal Hampton, Jason’s friend and a fellow associate of Brian Heder.
Rockstar published a list of the supporting characters on its official website.
As of February 2025, the predecessor of GTA VI and the fifth numbered part of the series has sold over 210 million copies worldwide, making it the second best-selling video game of all time, behind only Minecraft, which has sold 350 million units.
