Key points
  1. PS Plus will focus more on PS5 games starting January 2026.
  2. PS4 games will still appear, but much rarer.
  3. Subscribers will still be able to play PS4 games they’ve redeemed from Monthly Games.

In a recent press release, PlayStation revealed that PlayStation 5 (PS5) titles will be prioritized starting January 2026, making PlayStation 4 (PS4) titles a rare offering.

PlayStation justified the move by revealing that more and more of their players have focused on redeeming PS5 titles from the Monthly Games and Game Catalog offered by PlayStation Plus (PS Plus). Seeing this, PlayStation has decided to evolve alongside the trend and mainly offer PS5 games over PS4.

The company has also updated the PS Plus website including a fine print indicating that PS4 games are only to be offered intermittently starting January 2026. However, PS Plus subscribers shouldn’t worry about the PS4 games that they currently have. As long as the subscriber has redeemed the game, it should still be playable. PS4 games in the Game Catalog will still be playable until it leaves.

PlayStation finished the post by saying that they’ll continue to evolve the experience of the service which includes exclusive discounts, online game save storage, and many more.

PlayStation Plus is a subscription service from Sony that allows its subscribers to access games from a selection of games that rotate monthly as well as a catalog that includes high-profile games from first-party developers such as God of War: Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part 1, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

The subscription is divided into three tiers:

  • Premium – $17.99/month
  • Extra – $14.99/month
  • Essential – $9.99/month

The Essential plan only has access to Monthly Games. Moving a step up to Extra will give subscribers access to the Game Catalog which features more than a hundred games. Premium allows access to the Classic Catalog filled with older games like Harvest Moon: Back to Nature and Patapon.
