Epic Games has officially revealed a big update coming to the operating model for the company’s digital storefront, Epic Games Store, that includes a new policy for revenue share and webshops.
According to the official statement published on the company’s website on May 1, 2025, starting from June 2025, if a game or app on the Epic Games Store makes up to $1 million per year, Epic won’t take any cut of that revenue. After $1 million, Epic will take their usual 12% cut (developers keep 88%).
On top of that, in June 2025, Epic will release an option for developers to create their own online stores (called webshops) using Epic’s system. These shops will let players buy things like in-game currency or items outside of the app, which will help to avoid the high fees platforms like Apple and Google usually charge on inapp purchases.
A final point of the announcement was Epic Rewards, a 5% cashback program that gives players credit for purchases made through Epic Webshops, which can be used toward future purchases.
The news is coming on the heels of Epic Games winning a legal dispute against Apple and announcing the comeback of Fortnite to iOS.
