Niantic’s popular mobile game, Monster Hunter Now, is entering the Lunar New Year with a series of exclusive events and the debut of the Elder Dragon, Kirin.

Players can participate in the “Lucky Lunar New Year 2025” event until February 2, 2025. This event reintroduces exclusive equipment from the previous year and introduces the new dragon-element Lucky Light Bowgun that will be available only during the event period.

Players can forge and upgrade event-exclusive equipment by collecting specific tickets obtained through limited-time quests and by slaying monsters Gold Rathian, Pink Rathian, and Banbaro. Additionally, limited-time packs featuring Lunar New Year-themed layered outfits and other items are available for purchase in the in-game shop and Web Store.

On February 1, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. local time, Kirin will make its debut in Elder Dragon Interceptions. Known for its rarity and ability to manipulate electricity, Kirin offers hunters the chance to forge new thunder-element weapons and the Kirin armor set, which includes a skill that enhances thunder attack power and reduces paralysis effects.

To commemorate Kirin’s arrival, Niantic is hosting a paid online event, Monster Hunter Now Winter Hunt 2025, from February 1 to February 2, 2025. Purchasing an event ticket ensures that Kirin is the only elder dragon appearing in Elder Dragon Interceptions during this period. Ticket holders will also receive an exclusive layered armor set inspired by Kirin.

As of September 2024, Monster Hunter Now has generated approximately $251.7 million in revenue and in December 2024 alone, the game earned about $4.85 million from in-app purchases. The entire Monster Hunter franchise total sales reached 105 million units by September 30, 2024.
