Gearbox has revealed very few details regarding the other two Borderlands 4 playable characters. Since small snippets of them were shown before, media outlet MentalMars created makeshift names for them.

The other two are currently codenamed “The Mechanic” and “The Brute”; the names were based on the characters’ respective design language. Gameplay for these two characters has not been revealed yet.

Borderlands games typically have four playable Vault Hunters available upon launch. Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel both featured purchasable character DLCs, which were released as a live-service update. Gearbox has not confirmed whether or not it will be adding DLC characters for Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4’s release date was pushed forward and will come out on September 12, 2025. Borderlands 4 will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2, PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
