  1. Monster Hunter Wilds introduces its first cephalopod-like monster, Nu Adra
  2. Nu Adra fully utilizes its tentacles and acts similarly to real-life cephalopods
  3. Monster Hunter Wilds is set to release on February 28.

Nu Udra is the newest addition to Monster Hunter’s ever-growing cast of monsters, and it’s the very first cephalopod to be added to the game that fully utilizes its tentacles as its primary way of fighting.

Featured in IGN First on January 29, the developers of Monster Hunter Wilds sat down for a quick interview to introduce the new biome being added to the game. They mentioned their desire to make a zone that’s more vertical than horizontal and what came out of that was Oilwell Basin.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Exploring the Oilwell Basin With the Capcom Developers – IGN First

In this zone, resides Nu Adra, the octopus-like monster. This is the first time in the history of Monster Hunter that a functioning cephalopod creature has been introduced. The developers mentioned monsters like Nakarkos and Yama Tsukami, but they iterated that those monsters only use their tentacles in a limited way. Nu Adra, on the other hand, can use all of its tentacles and can even fit into very tight crevices, just like actual cephalopods.

They went deep into discussing Nu Adra’s design and even provided little tips such as flashbangs not working against it and players being able to cut its tentacles.

Regarding the zone, the Oilwell Basin is divided into three parts with the zone looking more and more like an underwater volcano system as players dive deeper. The devs also mentioned that the creatures around the center and at the bottom parts of the zone are inspired by the deep sea. IGN has also released a first-look focusing solely on hunting the monster showcasing its abilities and move set.

Monster Hunter Wilds is developed by Capcom. It is set to release on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5 on February 28, 2025.
