Key points
  1. Marvel Rivals leakers believe that NetEase is planting fake heroes to troll them.
  2. A separate leaker team believes this is not true due to the effort developers are putting into these heroes.
  3. Marvel Rivals remains one of the most-played games on Steam and most viewers on Twitch.

The Marvel Rivals leaker community is going through a confusing time as a Discord message from a server containing the biggest leakers of the community reveals that they now believe NetEase is planting fake heroes to shake them off.

On January 24, a Twitter post containing a Discord message was posted. According to the message, the server is now aware that there are potentially fake heroes included in the code of Marvel Rivals.

The following heroes are allegedly plants orchestrated by the developers to confuse leakers:

  • Quicksilver
  • Professor X
  • Cyclops
  • Colossus
  • Paste Pot Pete
  • Jia Jing
  • Gambit
  • Rogue
  • Nightcrawler
  • Jubilee
  • Beast
  • Locus
  • Crystal

The post then clarifies that while they’re not entirely sure these are plants, they were informed that they’re very likely fake.

However, another leaking group called X0X Leaking Team is calling them out. According to RivalsInfo, they believe that there is a very low chance that the characters found in the code are actually fake. They believe that the work done just to fool them is too intricate.

A leaker by the name of zvis_ceral posted a thread that contains the code that proves the existence of the leaked characters. This is specifically made to shut down the earlier post about NetEase planting fake heroes. RivalsInfo also shared additional resources about leaked character voice line events, another piece of evidence that they believe shuts down the “plant rumors”.

Marvel Rivals continue to dominate the shooter genre with around 63,000 viewers on Twitch and more than 150,000 concurrent players at any given time on Steam.
